The synthesis of humans, animals, and plants by natural processes represents the spontaneous realization of low-probability events under the constraints of natural laws including energy conservation, mass conservation, and the second law of thermodynamics. These events were not controlled or directed by any external agency but emerged spontaneously from the operation of natural laws.
The academic preference for high-probability, statistically significant results creates a systematic bias against the discovery of rare but important phenomena. The academic publishing system has created a perverse incentive structure where correcting published errors is significantly more difficult than publishing original errors, leading to a literature that systematically favors the perpetuation of established mistakes over their correction.
This bias becomes particularly pronounced when the research being challenged comes from prestigious institutions or prominent researchers. While empirical techniques have advanced dramatically, theoretical understanding has lagged behind. This imbalance threatens the long-term health of scientific inquiry, which depends on the continuous development of new theoretical frameworks to organize and interpret empirical observations.

Theoretical questions require theoretical methods; empirical questions require empirical methods; and most important scientific problems require the integration of both approaches.
